Short answer: in Tangier, a 12–20 m² bedroom is usually cooled by a 9,000 BTU split unit, and a living room up to 30 m² by a 12,000 BTU unit. Pick a reversible (heat pump) model for the damp winters and, near the sea, an anti-corrosion condenser. Installing a split unit currently costs 500–900 MAD in Tangier, unit not included.

What's different about Tangier
Humidity matters as much as heat
Summers are often more muggy than scorching. The "Dry" mode makes a room comfortable while using less power than full cooling.
Salt air attacks outdoor units
Along the corniche, in Malabata, Marshan or towards Cap Spartel, choose an anti-corrosion condenser and a spot sheltered from sea spray.
Winters are mild but damp
A reversible unit heats and dries the air, and is often the cheapest way to heat a Tangier apartment.
Service it every spring
Clean the filters every 2–4 weeks in season and book a full service in April or May, before the first hot days.
